    1. Millets are a group of small-seeded grasses that are grown for their grains and are commonly used for food and animal feed. There are several different types of millets, including pearl millet, finger millet, and foxtail millet.

There are several types of millets, including: (a) Pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum), (b) Finger millet (Eleusine coracana), (c) Foxtail millet (Setaria italica), (d) Proso millet (Panicum miliaceum), (e) Barnyard millet (Echinochloa frumentacea), (f) Kodo millet (Paspalum scrobiculatum), (g) Little millet (Panicum sumatrense), (h) Teff (Eragrostis tef), (i) Fonio (Digitaria exilis), and (j) Job's tears (Coix lacryma-jobi)
    4. Millets are low in fat and have a low glycemic index, which makes them a suitable choice for people with diabetes or metabolic syndrome.
    5. Millets are gluten-free, making them suitable for people with celiac disease or gluten intolerance. Millets can be cooked and consumed in a variety of ways, including as a grain, a flour, or a porridge.

    7. In April 2018, millets were rebranded as “Nutri Cereals”, followed by the year 2018 being declared as the National Year of Millets. The U.N.'s declaration as IYM 2023 has been instrumental for India to be at the forefront in celebrating the millet year.
    8. Millets are considered to be more drought-tolerant and resistant to pests and diseases compared to other grains, making them a suitable crop for dryland and marginal lands.
    9. Millets have a low environmental impact compared to other grains, as they require less water and are less reliant on chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
    10. In India, millets are an important source of nutrition for many people, particularly in rural areas. The government of India has been promoting the cultivation and consumption of millets as a way to improve food security and nutrition, as well as to support the livelihoods of smallholder farmers.
