• Taming the plague: The bacterium Yersinia pestis has hit mankind over thousands of years, but finally it was tamed. Plagues often hit the poor societies harder, but COVID-19 has hit the rich as badly as the poor in 2020.
• Black swan: The author Nassim Nicholas Taleb wrote about "The Black Swan" events - unexpected, rare, wide-ranging impact - and what we see today is one such event.  [The author is wrong here - as Taleb himself considers this pandemic as a white, and not black, swan]
• Various solutions to the pandemic: The Chinese went in for draconian shutdowns, criticised by many. Then most other nations implemented the same. India did it for the longest time. The world came to a state of "suspended animation".
• Hibernation as strategy: Many animal species across the world undergo hibernation to avoid hostile conditions. The body slows down, consumes less energy, and lives to see another less hostile day. 
• India doing well: Except for a few hotspots, India is doing well compared to other nations. First approach (used in India) is to avoid close contact. Second approach (discussed a lot) is herd immunity (free and wider spread of infection). Then comes track, test and treat in isolation.
• The good news: India has not been blamed for the global crisis. In a separate case, the NDM-1 bacteria was named "New Delhi Metallo-beta-lactamase 1". It was a resistant bacteria gene. Overall from the pandemic, India may come out relatively unhurt.
• Fallacies of modern medicine: India should not blindly accept Western prescriptions, but build its own models of cost-effective care with compassion and equity. Just like space and defence, medical research must get enough funding.
• Rich and the poor: India's rich may complain that they are not able to consume enough, but they will realise that it's better to stay alive. The poor need fulfilment of basic needs first. They have a survival instinct to sail through.
• Economy of India: Stock markets are hardly a proper barometer of the economy, as single announcements can see paper wealth created or destroyed. What will matter is if the state will be able to take care of the contract workers and poor farmers, and compensate their lost wages.
• Slow down: It seems that mankind now needs to slow down a bit, as nature has hinted to it. Slower GDP growth should not matter much, as we gear up to meet a future black swan.
• Summary : The time has come for mankind to slow down a lot, as the hectic pace of economic growth has only led to more devastation at various levels.
