• The Health Ministry happily shared that India administered 2.5 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccines on Sept 17, 2021, comparing it with the entire populations of smaller nations
• In that case, the only meaningful comparison may also be with China's rate - 2.47 crore shots in one day
• Today, 62% adults in India have got one dose at least, and 20% have received both
• The 17th Sept mega push was part of PM Modi's birthday celebrations, and BJP-ruled states tried their best
• US is facing a supply glut, and demand shortage, and India is facing a continuous production but supply shortage (on certain days)
• Bharat Biotech had promised a certain rate of delivery, but has fallen far short of it
• A key promise is to inoculate all Indian adults by 31st December 2021, and that needs 185 crore doses (1 crore per day); today's total is 80 crore doses
• Prior to 17th Sept, daily average was 0.6 to 0.7 crore
• Daily new infections are decreasing in India now, but 30000 per day is a persistent figure (Feb 2021 had just 10000 per day, and then came the devasstating second wave)
• Delta variant has affected entire India already, but now new variants are emerging (immune escape capable) and vaccinated are showing waning immunity
• Since educational institutes will now open in a big way, and many children are unvaccinated, daily supplies must rise rapidly
• The good part is that most Indians have no vaccine hesitancy at all, and the only problem is to take vaccines to all quickly
• The goal now - for the union govt. - must be to focus on the most vulnerable districts and send more vaccines there
• Vaccine makers must be asked to speed up and fulfil the commitments they made earlier (most of which remain unfulfiled till date)

• वैक्सीन निर्माताओं को पहले की गई प्रतिबद्धताओं में तेजी लाने और उन्हें पूरा करने के लिए कहा जाना चाहिए (जिनमें से अधिकांश आज तक अधूरे हैं)
• रिकॉर्ड स्थापित करने से यह समस्या हल नहीं होगी, कार्रवाई होगी
