The GDP figures indicate recovery, but many sectors are struggling, and fiscal support can help boost consumption demand in a weak monsoon scenario.

ENGLISH ANALYSIS

• The Q1 GDP estimates by NSO showed a sharp rebound in GDP, compared to the sharp contraction in Q1 of 2020-21 (pandemic's onset and lockdowns) [NSO - National Statistical Office]
• All of the eight industries across agriculture, manufacturing and services showed positive growth
• The GVA (aggregate output from 8 sectors) grew by 18.8%
• The picture changes the moment we compare it with figures from Jan-March of 2019-20, or April-June 2019-20
• GDP in Q1 April-June 2021 was Rs.32.3 trillion, 16.9% less than Rs.38.9 trillion of Jan-March 2019, or 9% less than Rs.35.6 trillion of April-June 2019
• Numbers show the price paid by India during the second Covid wave, and six of the eight industries posted quarter-on-quarter contractions
• Expenditures - the PFCE was 17.4% down from previous quarter, though 19.3% up from previous year's same quarter, and GFCE also contracted 4.8% and 7.6% from previous year and previous quarter [PFCE - Private Final Consumption Expenditure, GFCE - Govt. Final Consumption Expenditure]
• Now, most States have eased their localised second wave restrictions, and traction has resumed
• Exports are doing exceptionally well as Western world recovery means higher demand for India-made goods and services
• Manufacturing rose to be close to Rs.24000 cr, just close to that in April-June 2019
• But rising raw material costs are forcing manufaturers to either absorb costs, or raise prices (so dampening demand)
• Monsoon rains are in deficit, so agricultural output and wider rural demand may see a downturn
• The only worthy goals for the government now are (i) total focus on vaccinations, and (ii) supportive fiscal measures to boost consumption demand 

HINDI ANALYSIS

• NSO द्वारा Q1 GDP अनुमानों ने 2020-21 की पहली तिमाही (महामारी की शुरुआत और लॉकडाउन) [NSO - राष्ट्रीय सांख्यिकी कार्यालय] में तीव्र संकुचन की तुलना में, GDP में तीव्र प्रतिक्षेप दिखाया है
• कृषि, विनिर्माण और सेवाओं के सभी आठ उद्योगों में सकारात्मक वृद्धि देखी गई
• जीवीए (8 क्षेत्रों से कुल उत्पादन) में 18.8% की वृद्धि हुई
• जब हम इसकी तुलना 2019-20 के जनवरी-मार्च या अप्रैल-जून 2019-20 के आंकड़ों से करते हैं तो तस्वीर बदल जाती है
• अप्रैल-जून 2021 की पहली तिमाही में जीडीपी 32.3 ट्रिलियन रुपये थी, जो जनवरी-मार्च 2019 के 38.9 ट्रिलियन रुपये से 16.9% कम थी, या अप्रैल-जून 2019 के 35.6 ट्रिलियन रुपये से 9% कम थी
• ये संख्याएं दूसरी कोविड लहर के दौरान भारत द्वारा भुगतान की गई कीमत को दर्शाती हैं, और आठ उद्योगों में से छह ने तिमाही-दर-तिमाही संकुचन पोस्ट किए हैं

• सरकार के लिए अब केवल योग्य लक्ष्य हैं (i) टीकाकरण पर पूरा ध्यान, और (ii) खपत की मांग को बढ़ावा देने के लिए सहायक वित्तीय उपाय
