• ENGLISH ANALYSIS

• When the Pakistani PM Imran Khan welcomed the arrival of the Taliban (before its actual arrival) in Kabul, it was at odds with earlier claims it had no leverage over that group (to force them into a ceasefire)
• August 16 - Imran said "Afghans had broken the shackles of slavery", and it was clear that Pakistan was happy with Taliban's return (no surprises)
• Pakistan had helped the Taliban in 1990s, and recognised them instantly in 1996, and supported them post-2001 when they were driven out by the Americans
• Basic logic was that if Afghanistan became stable, due to US and Indian help, Pakistan would be hurt
• So Quetta, Balochistan, was made the hub for the Taliban, and they properly regrouped inside Pakistan
• No doubt, the 2021 Talibani victory is the victory also of Pakistani military establishment's efforts
• But no one really knows what the Taliban will do from now on; though everyone knows that the rise of a Sunni jihadi group to power will motivate many similar groups in the world
• Pakistan has its own problem - the twin image of Taliban "Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan"
• In the chaotic Afghanistan of today, other terror groups like IS-K (ISIS Khorasan) can be deadly, as seen in the airport blasts
• If order isn't restored strongly, there will be a multi-directional, civil war between the Taliban, the IS-K and other old regime remnants
• Does Pakistan realise that? It may have won tactically for now, but hardline Islamism, militancy and extremism will pose new threats to it
• America knows it well - it funded the Afghan Mujahideen in 1980s against the Soviets, who later birthed the Taliban, who hosted the al Qaeda, that carried out the 9/11 attacks
• It is in Pakistan's best interest to push the Taliban to ensure peace in that country, and treat people with dignity, and avoid any safe harbour for global terrorists

• जब पाकिस्तानी प्रधान मंत्री इमरान खान ने काबुल में तालिबान के आगमन (इसके वास्तविक आगमन से पहले) का स्वागत किया, तो यह पहले के दावों के विपरीत था कि उस समूह पर इसका कोई लाभ नहीं था (उन्हें युद्धविराम में मजबूर करने के लिए)
